What Are Dental Bridges?

Dental bridges are one of the most commonly used restorative dental treatments. They are fixed dental prosthesis that can replace missing teeth. Dental bridges can help restore your smile and improve the function of your teeth by filling in gaps.

Main Components Of Dental Bridges

A dental bridge is comprised of two main components, the abutment teeth and the pontic. The abutment teeth are the two teeth on either side of the gap created by the missing tooth/teeth. These teeth are designed by removing a small piece of enamel to make space for the dental bridge. Once the abutment teeth have been prepared, they will be used to support the pontic.

Types Of Dental Bridges

There are different types of dental bridges, including traditional bridges, cantilever bridges, and maryland bridges. Traditional bridges are the most common type and comprise two abutment teeth and one or more points. Cantilever bridges are similar to traditional bridges but are only supported by one abutment tooth. Maryland bridges, also called resin-bonded bridges, are made up of a pontic attached to the back of the adjacent teeth using a metal or porcelain framework.
